The Oboe is simply Magical!
It has a very unique tonal quality, that may not be quite so pleasant at the beginning, but an advanced player can really make the oboe sound beautiful.
The Oboe is what we call a double reed instrument. This means that the sound is produced by placing a reed into the mouth. This reed is made of 2 pieces of cane bound together which vibrate to produce the sound.
If you take a close look at the picture of the Oboe Reed to the left you will see this quite clearly.
As illustrated by the picture to the right, the Oboe consists of several sections that are carefully put together to assemble the instrument.
The oboe student needs to be very committed and dedicated to working on tone production.
However, the oboe is such a beautiful instrument that the result is well worth effort for the child with a mature approach to music education.
What Brand Oboe do you recommend?
I would recommend that you do not get the cheapest Oboe you can find. Oboes can be fickle and it is important for the beginner to start off with a reliable instrument.
I recommend the student model Buffet Oboe.
