The Clarinet is a very important member of the Concert Band.
Together with the flute it forms the foundation on which the rest is built, and we therefore need lots of clarinet players.
The clarinet is what we call a reed instrument and a member of the wood wind family.
It is called a reed instrument because a small thin piece of wood, called a reed is what is responsible for the production of sound. When placed correctly in the instrument and then placed into the mouth, the wind blown through the instrument causes the reed to vibrate thus producing the sound.

Clarinets are usually black as in the picture to the right. However there is a model called the Vito Dazzler which is available in a variety of colours.
This is an excellent choice for the very young beginner as it creates added interest in the instrument they are playing. Suddenly their friends will all think it is very 'cool'.
You will not find these instruments readily available, but you can request them, and sometimes find them advertised secondhand in the papers.
If you would like one of these instrument please contact me for more details or go to Purchasing an Instrument page.

Hi, I have been playing the clarinet since I was in Grade 4. I am now in grade 11.
Being able to play an instrument and participate in a Concert Band has been a very rewarding experience for me.
I enjoy playing the clarinet and would recommend it to you.
